Lucy A. Milligan

Studying Fine Art at A-level with the 6th form Art Scholarship, I spent the summer at the Florence Academy of Art training in classical portraiture techniques. Mainly painting in Oils, I use the old master's technique of imprimatura, whereby one prepares the canvas with a very transparent layer of oil paint diluted in turpentine. For portraits, the canvas is placed adjacent to the subject using the realist sight-size method. Standing back from the painting, I use a plumb line to mark the height of the still life, making size measurements based on what I actually see.

Currently, I am enrolled in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh and try to paint whenever I can! Here you will find examples of my work including drawings, paintings and more abstract landscape.
